Mission Statement and Goals

The Aberdeen & Reservoir Civic Association (ARCA) was founded in 1984. We have been working continuously since then to serve the community and have been involved in many issues of importance to the Cleveland Circle, Chestnut Hill Reservoir, and Aberdeen neighborhood. At our public meetings, ARCA provides a forum for communication with residents and elected and Boston City officials.

ARCA's mission is to improve the quality of life of the Aberdeen neighborhood by:

. Monitoring zoning issues and preventing inappropriate development projects, both large and small, that would have a deleterious effect on an already overbuilt neighborhood

. Preserving the architectural character of a neighborhood that encompasses a variety of housing types and architectural styles

. Safeguarding against institutional expansion and working to lessen the effects of both off- and on-campus students in the neighborhood

. Enhancing the streetscape of adjoining commercial zones

. Protecting open space and parkland areas from commercial and institutional expansion

Cleveland Circle Seth Thomas Replica Clock

This new landmark for Boston, Brighton, and Cleveland Circle was dedicated on April 21, 2001 by the Honorable Mayor Thomas Menino. It is a replication of an 1800s model by the New England manufacturer Seth Thomas, after which it is named. The Electric Time Company of neighboring Medfield, Massachusetts built this timepiece.
